Scientific-educational journal of applied character is more than 40 years old. Outstanding scientists of high schools of the North Caucasus are the members of its editorial boards. It was created in 1972 on the initiative of Y.A. Zhdanov, the Correspondent Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemistry, who became its Chief Editor. The journal was aimed at integrating the scientists of the North Caucasus for solving the vital problems of science and national economy. At that time the journal had the title “Izvestiya of the North Caucasus Scientific Centre of the Higher School”With Perestroika the journal changed not only its name but the basis of financing. Cur-rently it is partially financed by its co-founders – 15 higher schools of the North Caucasus. The pages of the journal contain articles of the scientists of the North Caucasus, as well as former Soviet Republics and other foreign countries, the articles covering a wide range of scientific, applied and educational issues. The journal is still published in three series (6 issues a year), each series reflecting the development of science in the following fields of research: Mathematics and Mechanics, Geology, Natural resources.The journal also contains critical reviews of the books of the North Caucasus authors, in-formation about scientific conferences, as well as special thematically organized issues. The con-tent of the journal gives answers to various questions, taking in to consideration the complex ap-proach to solving the goals and terminology of adjoining sciences.
